Uses: The products in which this chemical is used are not limited to leather, cosmetics, glass, ink and coating. It is used to prepare nitrates from triflates, convert halides into ketones, carry out nucleophilic substitution reactions as a source of NO3 and invert configuration of alcohols through tosylates. 

Preparation: Tetrabutylammonium bromide is required in the preparation of Tetrabutylammonium nitrate (TBAN), which is passed through Amberlite anionic exchange resin with potassium nitrate. The pure TBAN as a white crystalline solid is the result of evaporation of the filtrate until it is dry and benzene is recrystallized.
