This chemical acts as an oxidizing agent that transforms monosubstituted benzylamines into the appropriate aldimines when DMSO is present. This is also a benzylating chemical used with a nickel catalyst to benzylate aryl amide C-H bonds.

For the selective oxidation of oximes into ketones or aldehydes, as well as primary, secondary, allylic, and benzylic alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds, BTMAFC can be used as an effective oxidizing reagent.
